Snow has settled upon the land and the forecast is solidly in the 20's...winter has quietly arrived here, dazzling white but devilishly cold. I'm a warm weather worshipper by nature, but my dad taught me to appreciate the seasons, especially through food. In fact you could always tell what season it was by the bountiful bowl he kept on the table. In Spring it blossomed with lilacs and lemons, in Summer it boasted fresh figs and plums, in Fall it busted with pears and pecans, and in Winter it burst forth with sunny oranges and plump pomegranates. If you craved one of those magenta gems, he was always quick to crack one open and plate it up with Persian rice or drizzle it on a dessert or pair it with his homemade gelato...yum! It may take some effort to empty out the seeds but those sweet ruby jewels are so well worth it...like Dad used to say, if you ain't gettin' messy, you ain't having enough fun.  ;)

However you choose to open a pomegranate, you can start munching on those sweettart arils au naturel, sprinkle them on spicy brownies, mix them in with fruity ice cream or have yourself a jammapalooza courtesy of GKS!

Green Kitchen Stories is a mindspinning heartfilling odyssey with a happy family of three...crazygorgeous photos, fascinating travel tales and richly flavorful recipes, with an abundance of healthy fruits and veggies to go around.
